Whiplash Research is needed
A few years ago I was hit by a car one morning on my way to work. I was stuck in one of those forever-lasting traffic jams outside Stockholm, when a grey Honda in about ten km/h bumped into my car. The man behind the wheel was devastated. He had only looked away for a second! Ten kilometers per hour. Not a very high speed, one might think, but after some time I would discover that it was more than enough to dramatically change my everyday life.
Whiplash injuries were for many years regarded as pure imagination from the patients. As they can’t be seen on x-rays, they simply cannot be real. Nowadays, science knows that whiplash injuries actually exist. Car manufacturers are working with whiplash protection headrests, for example. Even in health care, this kind of research in definitely on the radar, and if you get rapid treatment, you can, with some luck, soon return to normal life.
However – more research is needed. Still, the doctors cannot exactly say what whiplash really is, only how to avoid it.
I refused to let me be discouraged by the accident, and it would be good if other sufferers know that there are solutions coming. As I know what it means to live with a whiplash injury, I will donate ten percent of my gross income from the book The Illusion/Bländverk to research in the field. I am not so naïve that I think it will be totally crucial, but I imagine that all contributions are welcome. Could I only make a small difference, I will be satisfied.
Follow me on my website, and see where the money will go. And buy the book. By the way, buy it and give to someone you love – then buy another one.
That way, you too contribute.
All the best!
